My first tribe pushed me to graduate in the top 10% of my class, earning scholarships in the arts and math, and a full ride for my first year of college.
When I was in high school, I accidentally joined Advanced placement math.
I don’t know what the heck I was thinking! The first year was pretty hellish.
I was failing and I felt really lonely doing it. I’d go home every night, spend about 2-3 lonely hours doing my math homework, crying the whole time and asking my poor mother “why is this so hard??”
Have you ever felt that way in your business? Spending lonely hours holed away working on jobs or ideas that you have NO clue how to bring to life.
But the following year, everything changed in math. I connected with a group of friends who would get together and work on math each day. I’d meet with them every day to do our AP mathwork together. I asked questions, I taught something I understood. We compared methods, figured out what worked and what didn’t.
It was honestly the best year of math! And my grades skyrocketed again. I graduated in the top 10% of my class, garnering scholarships in the arts and in math, including a full ride scholarship for my first year of college. Why? I had my tribe. I knew I could do more than ask questions when I didn’t get stuff. I could test, rework, ask, take things apart, put them together again, and get stronger with each new idea.
Isn’t it funny that the best year in my business was when I found my first mastermind (aka, my study group)? I had that exact same experience in my life and business. I could test, rework, ask, take things apart, put them together again, and get stronger with each new idea. And the results spoke for themselves. I broke 6-figures in a new business in 9 months. I paid of $22k in debt…all while having my first baby and going on 8 weeks of maternity leave.
